This is a close up review of a Paul Reed Smith Dragon 2002 No: #6 from the limited run of 100 guitars in 2002. This guitar is famous for its full (in your) face dragon on the guitar body.
The design of the guitar is somewhat reminiscent of a Gibson Les Paul with a couple of changes here and there, but what makes the Dragon 2002 stand out is that Dragon head which was developed to be almost 3D in design.
I cover close up shots of the guitar as well as discussing the merits throughout and show some of that fine artistry carried out on the inlay work, which is said to be compiled of literally hundreds of pieces - including mastodon tusk (or something like that).
With these guitars originally having a list price of $30,000 and one currently for sale on the Internet as I write at 30,000 Euro's (that's over $40,000) these are simply some of the highest priced production PRS guitars made of recent times. You could only imagine what the cost would be now we are here in 2012 when the review was filmed.
I don't really believe that PRS currently makes anything like these in either aesthetics or price! and the Collection (or collectors) things are really like the 'private stock' to me, but with just the bits on that Paul removed from the real 'private stock' since the inception of the collector guitars.
I do not go in to every last detail (for example pulling out the pickups etc) but if you really want to see exactly what a Dragon 2002 really is like close up then this video will show you that. If you really wanted to get up close and personal with a Dragon 2002 I could not find a single video anywhere on the internet that shows you one of these in ANY meaningful way so do check this out. The close up video section shows exactly what an awesome guitar this really is.
This Review is entirely the view of Tony Mckenzie and has not been solicited in any way from PRS or indeed anyone else.
