We chatted with Izaak from Toadstool Tech and Infinite Digits about their latest creation, the Ectocore. This algorithmic breakbeat sample mangler operates directly from an SD card, delivering CD-quality streams. It features a Turing machine-inspired random sequencer, allowing you to craft interesting looping patterns and unique breakbeat manipulations. The Ectochore's versatility includes a variety of effect combinations selected via its grimoire knob, and it even has a tap tempo function for those seeking to delve into boom bap rhythms.
Izaak highlighted how the Ectocore provides a trigger output for enhancing drum samples and explained its simple yet effective time-stretching feature. Originating as the Zeptocore, this device carries the same sound engine but is available in desktop format. Isaac mentioned future plans for expanders, focusing on intuitive operation without intricate programming. The Ectocore is being manufactured by the Glasgow Synth Guild and distributed through Signal Sound, ensuring easy accessibility.
